Shoulder pain

There are many different causes of shoulder pain. Car accidents, sports injuries and arthritis just to name a few. The pain can vary from a mild ache to excruciating pain. The shoulder is a complex joint that is involved in numerous activities of daily living. An injury should be treated immediately to avoid progression and worsening of your condition.

 Symptoms

 Symptoms include pain at rest or with movement. Sometimes, pain isn’t felt until the end range of motion. Other symptoms include decreased range of motion, difficulty holding objects and difficulty performing routine activities such as getting dressed or reaching overhead to get something off a shelf.

 Diagnosis

 Sometimes the neck can refer pain to the shoulder so an examination of the neck will be performed to determine the origin of your problem. Whether the shoulder pain is coming directly from the shoulder or referred from the neck, your symptoms can generally be treated with conservative chiropratic care.

 

Treatment

 Shoulder injuries may be treated with cold therapy, hydroculator (heat) therapy, electrical stimulation, ultrasound, stretching, exercises and gentle manipulation of the neck, middle back and shoulder. Therapeutic goals are to decrease pan and improve function.
